How to set up a network dongle installation
The network dongle setup allows using coDiagnostiX on several computers in a local network (same subnet) without having to plug the dongle into each PC. This means the dongle is plugged into a central computer or server and a special network license service distributes its information over the local network.
Please find our common setup solutions document for typical coDiagnostiX use cases “coDiagnostiX – common setup solutions"
Requirements
- Server or Workstation PC (VMs are supported)
- Windows 10 or newer or equivalent Windows Server OS
- Free USB port
To set up the dongle in the local network, put the coDiagnostiX Installation USB into a central computer or server, and open the installation wizard. After having agreed to the license terms, the setup type can be selected. Choose Network License Service Installation (Server) and click "Next" until the installation is finished. This will only install the eToken driver and license service without coDiagnostiX. Once finished, plug in the dongle.
Troubleshooting
If the network clients don't see the distributed dongle information, the firewall on the server might be blocking the network license service from communicating over the network. In this case, the network license service executable needs to be added to the whitelist of the server's firewall. To do this, a firewall exclusion rule has to be defined.
Create a rule to allow communication for the following file:
- 32-Bit Windows Folder: "C:\Windows\System32\"
- Files: "STMSLMSrv.exe" and "STMSLMSrvNet.exe"
- 64-Bit Windows Folder: "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\"
- Files: "STMSLMSrv.exe" and "STMSLMSrvNet.exe"
Please see the screenshots below for step-by-step instructions for the Windows Defender Firewall.
Start “Windows Defender Firewall”
Please make sure to do the following steps for “Inbound Rules” as well as
“Outbound Rules”.
If this doesn't help, check if the dongle is found by the server's operating system. To do this, open the license service from the following location:
- 32-Bit Windows C:\Windows\System32\STMSLMSrvNet.exe
- 64-Bit Windows C:\Windows\SysWOW64\STMSLMSrvNet.exe
A click on the "Diagnosis..." button brings up a list of recognized dongles. Check if the dongle is found by the server license service.
If the server cannot find the dongle, please restart the system. If it is still not found, contact 2nd level support.
