How-to: Adding custom implants with Implant Designer
The Implant Designer allows you to design or import user-defined implant geometries and publish them to the Implant Database.
To be able to include user-defined implants in your planning, you must have published them to the Implant Database before.
- Select Extras > Implant Designer from the main menu to open the Implant Designer or place the icon in your custom toolbar.
Alternatively, you can open the Implant Designer from the coDiagnostiX Management. Select Database > Implant Database > Implant Designer.
User Interface
The dialog box is composed of a:
- Main menu that includes the
- Implant menu where you can perform general tasks like opening or saving implant files
- Edit menu where you find different options for implant design
- View menu where you can switch the visibility of the crestal plane
- Tool bar
- Preview window
- Segment and summary panel
- Segment parameter panel
By default, each segment is named Segment and has a consecutive number. Click on the default name to rename.
Segment Panels
To rearrange segments, drag and drop them in the panel.
Summary Box
Provides a quick overview of important implant parameters such as length or diameter.
Implant preview
Use the preview to edit segments directly. Move the mouse over one of the handles to display current dimensions.
To edit the parameters, left-click on the respective point and move it as desired. Dimensions are adapted dynamically.
Segment parameters
Adjust the parameters by typing in their value or selecting a preset from the list.
Top and bottom face type
Defines the geometrical shape of your segment, e.g. 6 points, 8 points, etc.
Top and bottom inclination
To link angle and offset in order to adjust both values simultaneously, select Edit > Link Angle with Offset from the menu.
Designing an implant
Possible Workflows:
Designing segment by segment
- Designing the geometry segment by segment from scratch
- Editing an implant file or template (How-To: Using design files or templates)
- Import a CAD file (How-To: Import CAD File)
Insert or add segments:
- Select Edit > Insert New segment from the menu to add a new segment above the active segment
- Select Edit > Add segment to add a segment at the lowermost position (below all existing segments)
- Switch between the segments by clicking them in the segments panel on the left side or directly in the preview. The active segment is shown in yellow
- To rearrange segments, grab and move the segment in the Segments panel
Modify the dimensions of the active segment:
- Grab and drag the handles in the view or
- Enter the dimensions directly in the Segment Parameters panel below the view.
Publishing or saving implant geometries
To be able to include user-defined implants in your planning, you must have published them to the Implant Database before.
- Select Implant > Publish to Implant Database from the menu or click the button in the toolbar to start the publishing wizard.
Saving
To save your implant geometry as a design file and use it solely as template for future designs, save it as file.
- Select Implant > Save from the menu.
When using the Implant Designer, check your implant carefully to make sure it has the correct dimensions and has been designed as desired.
Once published to the Implant Database, such implant is locked for editing.
